Temporary registration is available for all vehicles.  With time periods of 24 hour, 30 day for passenger vehicles and 72 and 144 hours for commercial vehicle.  This type of registration is just as it implies, for temporary use until permanent registration can be obtained or in commercial vehicle cases as a one way trip permit to allow vehicles to make it to their final destination upon a sale.  

Requirements                             Permit Fees

1. You must be the vehicle owner and have possession.  If you are a co-owner of the vehicle, information on both individuals will be required. 

2. You must be a Texas Resident or Military Personnel stationed in Texas

3. You must be able to provide proof of compliance with Texas Liability Insurance requirements

Processing Time

Processing time for this transaction is generally within 24 to 48 hours and all document are return via overnight parcel or hand delivered in the Houston Metro area.  Some areas of Houston may require an addition trip charge of $10 depending on actual miles that need to be traveled.
